ABOUT

My name is Kat and I am an artist currently based in Western Australia. 

Ever since I was able to hold a crayon I have had an intense passion for drawing. After bringing home many many school reports with comments from my teachers chastising me for sketching in my textbooks when I should have been paying attention to something more important like my calculus or physics classes or something equally as fun to teenage me (think along the lines of nails on a chalkboard!) I began to think maybe I should pursue this 'art thing' as something more than just a hobby and try to make a living doing what I love.

This realisation is what led me to completing four years of study at the Central Institute of Technology where I obtained an Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design with my majors being Illustration and Branding along with a certificate in Photography. The progress I made in those few short years, absorbing as much information as I could from my extremely knowledgeable lecturers, was astounding to me but I have never grown complacent in my abilities. As I lean towards perfectionist tendencies I always have this drive, pushing me forward, to enhance my skills and find new methods and mediums to try.

The design work i produce holds a very clean, strong minimalist aesthetic which, at a glance, may seem to be a polar opposite to the majority of my illustrations which are extremely detail oriented almost verging on hyper-realism in some cases, however I believe there to be a common thread to my style. What ties my work together in my opinion is my attention to every last element, because to me minimalism is all about understanding the details. Working on my illustrations has trained the way I view subjects and given me the ability to translate something complex to just a few shapes and lines all while still getting the point across because the more you know about the subject, the more effective a composition will be.

It is of the highest importance to me that everything I produce not only meets the clients needs and expectations, but is also something I am proud of and I never settle for anything less.
